Statement Line Dictionary

Statement Line Dictionary

A reference for merchants looking at a payment processing statement and asking: "What might this exact label mean?"

Each entry explains what a label or code may refer to, what the label alone cannot establish, and the specific question to ask your processor to get a clear answer.

How this differs from the Payment Processing Glossary

Glossary — /glossary

Explains underlying payment-processing concepts: what interchange is, how chargebacks work, what a merchant account involves.

Statement Line Dictionary — /statement

Explains labels and codes as they appear on statements. Focuses on what a specific label may mean, what it cannot confirm, and what to ask your processor.

Dictionary entries — 5 labels

Evidence status

Documented
directly supported by a named source
Provider-specific
documented only for the named provider, product, or statement format
Inferred
plausible, but not confirmed for this exact label
Unresolved
insufficient evidence for a responsible interpretation
Source-gap
no named source identified that establishes a confirmed meaning; interpretation cannot be responsibly offered

Adjustment

Also appears as: ADJUSTMENT

A label that appears in the description column of some payment processing statements. Adjustment can refer to materially different events depending on the provider, product, and statement format. The label alone does not establish whether the entry is dispute-related, network-related, a manual correction, or an account-reconciliation item.

Ask your provider:

“What event or account activity created this adjustment, and where is the corresponding transaction or reference record?”

DISC 1

Also appears as: Disc 1 DISC-1

A labeled code that appears in the discount section of some payment processing statements. The meaning of DISC 1 is documented for the Electronic Payments statement format only. The same code may carry a different meaning, or may not appear, on another provider's statement.

Ask your provider:

“Which transaction types are included in DISC 1 on my statement, and what rate was applied?”

INTERCHANGE

Also appears as: Interchange

A label that appears in the fee section of some payment processing statements. On Electronic Payments' published sample statement, INTERCHANGE appears in the Fees Charged section and is associated with card associations. The label INTERCHANGE alone does not establish the applicable interchange category, rate, issuing-bank recipient, processor markup, or whether the amount shown is correct.

Ask your provider:

“Which interchange categories and rates make up this amount, and where can I see the corresponding transaction detail?”

PCI Non-Compliance Fee

Under review

Also appears as: PCI Non-Compl Fee PCI Noncompliance Fee PCI Non Compliance

The label suggests a charge related to a provider's PCI compliance process, but the current source record does not establish the exact trigger, recipient, amount, recurrence, or removal process.

Ask your provider:

“What does your PCI compliance process require, and how do I confirm completion in your system?”

Monthly Fee

Under review

ProcessorFit has not identified a named public source that establishes a confirmed meaning for the exact bare label 'Monthly Fee.' The label may refer to a recurring account charge, but the service, authorization, recipient, and amount cannot be determined from the wording alone.

Ask your provider:

“What service or agreement term does this monthly fee correspond to?”
